CS 0510 - Communicating Data: Visualization, Dashboards, and Stories
Covers various types of visualizations that can be used most effectively for a given purpose, context, and audience. Students examine case studies with the instructor and then work on their own projects for creating and evaluating human-centered visualizations. Offers students an opportunity to learn about the essentials of visual design, information design, human/computer interaction, and an overview of user-centered design processes that can be applied to data visualization. Describes concepts and approaches that are applicable to any data visualization creation tool. Discusses some of the relative strengths and weaknesses of a few of the most common current visualization tools. Provides a brief history of important contributors to the field as well. Limited engagement and not available for current undergraduate students. This is a continuing education course.
