CS 0130 - Seminar in Professional Communication
Offers students an opportunity to gain an understanding of professional genre and to develop a repertoire of strategies for writing and speaking as researchers, scientists, designers, and educators. Each seminar has a short lecture on a specific communication topic and a workshop component, in which students apply the strategies to a sample text or a paper, talk, or other communication project. To communicate effectively as computer and information scientists, it’s important to keep audience, purpose, and context in mind. Also important is knowledge of genre and discourse conventions—the way we put words and sentences together, in writing or speech, to communicate complex ideas to an intended audience.
